Watching the Wimbeldon men’s final on Sunday I was remined of a quote from Monsieur L’Abbat “In battle let valour and prudence go together, the lyon’s courage with the fox’s craft.” Federer truly was the fox’s craft and Nadal the lion’s courage. Together they show the many facets required to be great in both tennis and tango. Federer’s style and elegance, his precise footwork, Nadal’s power and weight into the ground. Both of their mental depth. I think this is one of the things that confuses people coming to tango from other dances. They perhaps think that it should be one or the other when it is in fact suspended, torn, between the two.

It was so beautiful to watch. They hammered each other in a completely gentlemanly manner for four solid hours, and you never knew what was going to happen next. It was like reading Patrick O’Brian.
